Training in London

Our two year London Training programme provides you with a wealth of experiences and excellent training to ensure a successful start to your career as an English law-qualified lawyer. We will recruit our 2023 trainee intake from our summer 2021 vacation scheme participants.

What to Expect

Our vacation scheme offers a perfect introduction to a career in law and to Davis Polk. You’ll work on international transactions for some of our major clients and learn about our practice, culture and distinctive approach to client care.

If selected as one of our London trainees, before joining us we will provide training to help you through the first and second stages of the SQE. Throughout your two-year training programme that follows, you’ll experience both our corporate and finance practices, spend time in a specialist area of law (tax, financial regulatory or antitrust) and work in our New York office for six months. You’ll share an office with a senior lawyer, receive tailored training and have extensive contact with and access to our partners.

How to Apply

We will be accepting applications for our 2021 vacation scheme from penultimate-year law undergraduates and law postgraduates between 1 December 2020 and 9 January 2021. Applicants should email with a cover letter addressed to the Training Principal and setting out the reasons for their application and enclosing a CV and detailed breakdown of academic results. A number of applicants will then be invited to interview in mid January 2021.

We expect to host two groups of 10 law students, each for two weeks, from late June to late July 2021. Scheme participants will be interviewed for our 2023 training programme and will receive £500 per week to cover their expenses. We look to offer around four places for our training programme each year.
